Lifestyle Changes Occurring Post Retirement

Lifestyle Changes Occurring Post Retirement
December 26, 2023

Everything about us changes post retirement. From our everyday activities, to our daily spending habits go through a change. We cut down on certain expenses and experiences, we are cautious with our time and money and we also don’t overindulge in anything keeping our income in mind.

Here are some of the Lifestyle changes one goes through post retirement:

1. Lack of a stable Income, abundance of time-

Once you are retired, you are no more on a schedule you were earlier. Your waking up time to your eating time, which was all a schedule due to your work life, changes. You also don’t have an income flowing into your account every month. Because of this, you start making small changes, like reducing the number of times you eat out and eating a simple home cooked meal instead. But because you also have a lot of time on your hand, you can pursue things and hobbies that you couldn’t earlier due to lack of time.

2. Hiring external help-

Retirement also means old age. The things you were able to do may be harder for you once you grow old. Maybe you will need to hire nurses to give you round the clock medical help. If your children don’t stay with you, then it becomes even more imperative to keep help around. Moreover, some children do not want to take care of their parents or are not capable to do so.

3. Health care spends-

Old age also brings with it ailments. Your medical expenses may see a rise. Your health insurance premiums will also increase, and this is not an area you can cut back on since you will spend more on your health post retirement compared to when you were younger.

4. Needs for experiences than materials-

When we are young, our typical mindset is to have a weekend of party and socializing and spending on shopping. This helps us unwind. After retirement, you don’t want to eat and drink out too much. Or spend money on things you don’t need. You may want to spend more on experiences. Like taking an arts class that you always thought of but couldn’t or going on a pending vacation with your spouse.

HDFC helps you plan and decide for your retirement in a perfect way through its various retirement plans.
