Do Not Forget to Buy Mediclaim Policy for Your Family This Monsoon

August 28, 2018
Monsoons offer a much-needed relief from the scorching heat. Though it is a welcome change from the dry spells of summer, it is often accompanied by numerous health hazards. For this purpose, it is advisable to invest in a mediclaim policyfor you and your family at the earliest. In an event of hospitalization due to any medical disease, the insurance provider is liable to pay your hospital bills. This includes domiciliary expenses, ambulance charges, room rent, nursing charges, doctors fees, and day care procedures, among others.

Following are three major reasons to buy a mediclaim policy for your family this monsoon season.

1. Coverage against water-borne diseases

A higher rate of rainfall may result in waterlogging and puddles. This could cause an excessive growth of organisms such as mosquitoes. Mosquitoes may breed in accumulated and stagnant water, which may cause various life-threatening diseases such as malaria and dengue. Besides, the chances of contracting gastro or stomach infections such as diarrhea during this season are also high. It is also possible to contract lung-related diseases such as pneumonia during the rains.

Though you may take the necessary precautions this monsoon season, you cannot eliminate the risk of contracting an infection or disease. If you are hospitalized for any reason, you may have to make out-of-pocket expenses towards medical bills. This may burn a huge hole in your pocket. A mediclaiminsurance plan acts as an umbrella against high medical bills and helps you remain tension-free.

2. Coverage against allergies

The risk of contracting allergies during the monsoon season is high. Moisture in the air and wet clothes may cause infections and allergies. You may suffer from conjunctivitis, itching of skin, and rashes. Sometimes these problems may aggravate and may require hospitalization. A health cover comes to your financial rescue and helps you or your loved ones recover without any hassles.

3. Coverage against bodily injuries due to accidents

The rainy season brings along with itself numerous unfortunate events such as accidents. Due to the wet roads, there is a higher chance of your vehicle skidding. In case of damage to your vehicle, your auto insurance plan will offer protection to your vehicle as well as third party damage. However, a health insurance policy will meet medical bills in case you or your family members suffer from any bodily injuries.

Besides the aforementioned benefits, a health cover offers numerous other advantages. You may enjoy coverage under a critical illness plan. You may also avail of cashless benefit at any of the insurers network hospital. Moreover, you may enjoy tax benefits on the premium paid. Under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act 1961, you may avail of tax deduction of up to INR 25,000 for premiums paid towards self, spouse, and dependent children. Senior citizens may enjoy a higher tax benefit of INR 50,000.

You may enjoy the aforementioned benefits by investing in a health plan this monsoon season. After all, its better to be safe than sorry.
