5 tips to work from home

July 01, 2020

According to a survey conducted over 1,200 working professionals, the respondents desired that the companies that they work for should offer the option of working from home. Different situations demand that people work from home. Over time, companies have become more receptive to the idea of their employees working remotely/from home. While working from home is advantageous for the most part, working in your living space might prove to hamper your productivity. However, a bit of planning and co-operation on the part of your living mates goes a long way in easing the hiccups you might face.

Maintain a designated workspace

If you are not already used to working from home, it might take you some time to attain the productivity you are used to in your office. Ensure that your personal life does not affect your work commitments. Allot a particular space exclusively to working and ensure that you stick to it. Resist the temptation to work on your bed, in front of the TV or any other place that you might associate with winding out. Keep your workstation tidy and ensure easy availability of the things i.e. calculators, legal documents that you might require to get your job done. Shut the door to cut out noise from the neighbourhood or play some music that can help you concentrate better.

Effective Communication

Ensure that everyone in the team is updated about the latest happenings. Make the best use of technology to ensure that you can connect with teammates and clients via teleconferencing. Notify your team in advance in case issues need to be resolved. Plan meetings and brainstorming sessions well in advance. When motivation runs low, connect with colleagues and find ways to ensure that your productivity does not dip.

Maintain a schedule

Penning down a schedule and sticking to it ensure that your targets and team deliverables do not suffer. Effective planning creates a sense of accomplishment even before commencing the task at hand. This can also help in reassuring your superiors that you are capable of handling challenging work even while working remotely.

Unwind after a hard day's work

Stick to your work hours and put aside everything that reminds you of work post that. Invest the time saved on travelling on a self-care routine. Exercise, meditate or pursue a hobby that you have always wanted to. This helps in creating positive memories associated with working from home. Have you always wanted to polish your soft skills? This is the time! Consider enrolling for an online course and get going.
