The BSE 200 Equal Weight Index is designed to represent 200 companies using an equal-weighting approach. This limits the influence of the largest companies at rebalancing and allows each constituent a similar opportunity to contribute to index movement. Equal weighting does not eliminate market, stock, sector or liquidity risk and does not assure positive returns.
Unit Linked Insurance Plans (ULIPs)
A Unit Linked Insurance Plan is a life insurance product that provides life insurance coverage along with market-linked fund options. A portion of the premium is used towards life insurance coverage and applicable charges, while the remaining amount is allocated to fund options selected by the policyholder, subject to product terms.

What Makes the Equal Weight Approach Relevant?
An equal-weight approach assigns approximately the same weight to each constituent at rebalancing, reducing dependence on a small number of the largest companies. It offers broad participation across the constituent set. Between rebalancing dates, weights may move away from equality because of price movements.
Equal-weight strategies may perform differently from market-capitalisation-weighted indices. They may underperform when a few large companies lead the market and may have higher portfolio turnover because weights are periodically reset.
Index Construction and Rebalancing
- Eligible constituents are drawn from the BSE 200 Index at review.
- All eligible constituents are included without an additional factor-based ranking.
- Each constituent is assigned approximately equal weight at rebalancing.
- The index is rebalanced semiannually in June and December.
- Constituent weights may vary between rebalancing dates due to market movements.
This is a simplified explanation. The current BSE Indices Methodology and official notices will prevail in case of any difference.
