Everything You Need to Know About 1-Day Claim

January 14, 2020

As we all know, having insurance is an integral part of any good financial plan. These policies look after us in difficult times and also help us grow our money so that we can achieve all our future goals. But, when we really need our insurance policy to bail us out of a difficult time - can we count on it entirely? The process of filing for a claim has often been regarded as lengthy, time-consuming, and more often than not, incredibly difficult.

If you've been worried about how you'd ever file for a claim, we at HDFC Life are helping you claim what is rightfully yours.

With HDFC Life, now you can have your claims for the policies you have purchased online settled within just 24 hours*. We understand that claim settlement is one of the most important factors that directly impact our customer's life and at the same time, also speaks about our track record. This is why, over the last decade, we have worked hard to consistently maintain our track record in claim settlement and bring the ratio to 99.07% for the financial year 2019-20**.

How Do I File My Claim Request with HDFC Life?

If you find yourself in need of filing a claim, all you need to do is find your way to our claims page on our website. Once you're there, you need to follow 3 easy steps:

  1. Verify your policy details
  2. Submit the details of the life assured
  3. Submit the nominee's details

After you have submitted all the required details, hit the button to request a claim.

If you're making a claim against an accidental death, we'll need you to help us with a few more documents, such as the post mortem report, panchnama, FIR, chemical analysis report, and police inquest report.

What Happens If the Claim Is Not Settled Within 24 Hours?

We'd like for you to hold us accountable. If your claim request meets the needed

requirements, we'll work hard to settle the claim within the given 24 hours. If we're unable to do so, we will pay interest (at the rate of 6.25% per annum) on your death claim amount for every day that the claim is delayed. Of course, we'd also like to remind you that our 24-hour timeline is only applicable to working days.

Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and non-NAV days are not treated as working days so we will be unable to settle claims on those days.

What are the terms and conditions to be kept in mind?

As much as we'd love to make everything much easier for you, there are certain places where our hands are tied. Our 24-hour claim settlement is only available for:

  • Policies that have been purchased online.
  • Claims that do not require any field investigation to take place.
  • Policies where the cumulative claim amount is not more than INR 2 crores.
  • Claim requests for which all the documents have been submitted by 3 PM on a working day.

At HDFC Life, we're committed to making sure that you claim what is rightfully yours with minimal stress. So, the next time you're on the fence, wondering whether the policy is worth the painful claims process, remember that you can purchase our policies online and claim what is rightfully yours within 24 hours.

*T&C Apply

1)  For all claims* fulfilling above mentioned conditions, provided we receive all the required documents, the claim will be processed within one working day and decision will be communicated accordingly.  2) Investigation / Open title / Rival / Court involved Claims are excluded. 3) Policy duration at the time of event is at least >=3 years. 4) Saturday, Sunday, public festivals, and non-NAV days (for ULIP) are excluded (not treated as a working day).

^Interest rate would be at 6.25% per annum

**Individual death claim settlement ratio by number of policies as per audited annual statistics for FY 2019-20.
