Vibha Padalkar,

“See if your DNA matches ours.”

India opened its insurance industry to the private sector two decades ago and HDFC Life was the first private insurer to get a license. In the years since, a lot has changed – from the way insurance is sold, to what products are sold. However, despite the changes and the resulting growth of the sector, India remains an under-insured country. This potential for further penetration, combined with India’s favorable demographic profile and positive consumption pattern, buttresses the fact that insurance remains one of India’s sunrise sectors.

HDFC Life’s journey over the last two decades has been one of performance-driven and innovation-led growth, with a pioneer’s mindset in many areas including technology, products and distribution.

We believe the key ingredient in our success is our DNA, which is typically expressed in four ways:

First, “We build to last”: HDFC Lifers always think long-term. We are in a 100-year business and our aim is to excel in that kind of long- term sustainability.

Second, “We do chase topline, but not at the cost of profitability”: Like all businesses, we too face topline pressure at different points in a business cycle, but our focus is always on profitable growth. We may invest in a new idea, but we aren't a cash-burning company.

Third, “We compete fiercely, but with prudent risk management”: We believe in sound risk management principles that help prioritize risk over runaway business growth.

And lastly,“We’re paranoid about missing opportunities”: Even at the high points in our journey, we remain anxious about latching on to the next big opportunity before the competition.

If you think that your DNA resonates with what you have heard, then do reach out to us and we would love to have you onboard.

Our values form the bedrock of our corporate culture and we take pride in differentiating ourselves from the rest in this business as this is non-negotiable.

HDFC Life is a great place to work because of three things; People, Management strategy and Culture. The environment in all our offices is so lively, fast-paced and energetic. People are valued and therefore everybody is working towards improving themselves continuously. There is always an element of learning in everything we do.

I joined HDFC Life 6 years ago as an AVP, heading Brand Marketing. Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to grow in the organization, not only in terms of designation but also with portfolio expansion every year or so. Apart from this, being a part of a growing organization has given me the opportunity to constantly work at scale, improve and innovate to create a greater impact for the organization.

“The people and culture make HDFC Life a great place to work. The management is approachable and open to ideas while the teams and peers are supportive and focused to drive our agenda and goals. There is an inherent value system ingrained in the way we do business as well as the pursuit of excellence and growth. It's not just lip service but built into our actions and driven across levels.

I believe in and identify with the HDFC Life Values of Excellence, People Engagement, Integrity, Customer Centricity and Collaboration which makes it easier for me to relate to the organization at a more integral level. ”

Adapting to changing environments, and the need to re-imagine the business is truly exciting. And the learning never stops...

I began my career at HDFC Life handling new business conversions and from there I was rotated to almost every other area of operations, service, claims, retention and payouts. I was pushed out of my comfort zone with an ever increasing set of responsibilities which was unique to a novice such as myself. I vividly recall my time spent with data, cash flows, project teams etc., and that was an exciting journey that laid the foundation of what I am today

Life does throw at you surprises and one such event was when I was unwell and that was when HDFC Life leadership reached out and supported me. They gave me the opportunity to work from home, knowing fully well that I would deliver the highest standards as expected by them. I recouped from this ordeal successfully with HDFC Life by my side

The organisation continues to inspire and keep me focussed on the big picture. Today as I lead the entire Servicing Organisation comprising of multiple Customer touch points, Operations, Claims & Payouts and Persistency, the learning continues.

The organisation provides us with the freedom of expression and is supported by an approachable leadership team who accepts diverse viewpoints. There is a strong focus on the people as true enablers of business and supports an innovation and performance driven culture.
